Ekiga 3.9.90 released
First and last BETA before 4.0
As you might have guessed, Ekiga 4.0 is on its way. It will be the latest release to be based on GTK2 technologies.
It is also the first release where I did not code day and night to get it ready. It would not have been possible to keep Ekiga
alive when everything was going bad for me without the help of you all and mainly Eugen who has been doing an incredible
amount of work on Ekiga.
Eugen, thank you very much!
Ekiga is now up to speed again. The 4.0 UI is more modern and is very stable: I’m using it daily with our BeIP LIBERTY Communication Server product range and it works like a charm
The community has made Ekiga 4.0 possible and new patches are already waiting for Ekiga 4.2:
- T.140 Realtime text support,
- H.239 video control support, and a few others.
Ekiga.net update
The next step is the Ekiga.net upgrade to more recent software releases. The platform is used by many users, not only Ekiga users.
I plan to open up new features, at least for some categories users, like voicemail, RTP relaying in case of NAT and others…

Hi,
Is there any ubuntu ppa repository so that we can start testing it? We use ekiga at our company and I’m looking forward to seeing this new version working!!
Good news) Good luck & thank you!
Pau,
Unfortunately not.
However, I will check if something can be done to improve that situation.

Hi,
Sorry to trouble you, I have a problem with version 3.9.0.
When you enable auto-answer does not receive any calls.
When entering turn off normally. I have an Asterisk 1.6 I register a SIP account.
Thanks
Christopher
Hi Ekiga Team,
Any news on the PPA side? This would help a lot with testing this new version before its final release.
Thanks,
Vivien
Repeating previous questions – how about to make a PPA with latest versions? Or at least debs to download? I failed to build 3.9.90 from sources.
Indeed, a PPA would be useful, or at least standalone debs. Great work.
I’m really looking forward to trying Ekiga 4.0 out. +1 for a ppa or standalone debs.
Looks nice! Can this be used to replace Cisco Jabber Client?
PPA would be appreciated!
Any update on the PPA or the .deb files? This would be very useful as installing from source is a nightmare, dependencies upon dependencies upon dependencies.
PPA for Ubuntu 12.04 onwards would be great. Gutting to hear about releases of software I’ll never try because there’s an ancient version in the repo and no PPA to test with.
I’m also wondering if Ekiga could act as a Cisco Jabber replacement, but will have to stick with Pidgin (which only does IM) for the moment until I find a PPA for Ekiga 4.
As others have already said mentioned, any chance of posting the link to the ppa here? Would be great for testing.
I too would be interested in a proper PPA. I’ve google widely for this and it seems to be a common problem. While I am not turned off by the idea of compiling from source, not having a PPA substantially reduces wider adoption on non-Windows systems. I’ve used Ekiga before and really liked the program. It was an easy install because it was available in my distro’s repository (Mint).
